Fire Island Real Estate

Fire Island - Real Estate

With a gross area of 19,579 acres, only 20% of Fire Island is developed, including the total Fire Island National Seashore, a state park, a county park, two local town parks, and approximately 4,000 usable lots in 17 small communities, offering the major island's rentals and timeshare house resources for public access.

Fire Island boasts a dazzling nightlife, fine dining, and an amazing variety of activities with something for everyone, therefore investing in Fire Island Real Estate enables your access to exclusive and private communities and facilities that otherwise are not available for visitors. Pristine sand dune beaches and water-based entertainment year round is another reason to relocate to Fire Island.

Popularly known as a no-automobiles region, service and emergency vehicles are allowed on Fire Island, as well as special drive permits for residents, contractors, and off summer season visitors. People seeking commercial property that involves vehicles usage may have to obtain a permit from the National Park Service.

Fire Island is separated from Long Island by the 5-miles wide Great South Bay, an arm of the Atlantic Ocean and natural harbor formed by Fire Island and the eastern end of Jones Beach Island. Fire Island is accessible from Long Island by the Robert Moses Causeway on its western end and by William Floyd Parkway (Suffolk County Road 46) near its eastern end.

Due to the limited road access to Fire Island, Real Estate investors and home owners are often concerned when it comes to buying property on this barrier island. However, all of Fire Island's resort towns are accessible by the numerous ferries traversing regularly the Great South Bay, although there are also water taxi and boats rentals available.

Fire Island is often described as "back-to-basics" environmentalist community. Residents enjoy walking or riding their bicycles instead of driving a car, maintaining unspoiled resources hard to find elsewhere in the United States and probably in any other place in the world. Visitors also find exploration enjoyable by foot so developing new facilities for them is a good real estate option.
